Survey and incidence of Papaya leaf Curl Virus in Andhra Pradesh and Bengaluru

Abstract
A survey conducted, at the orchards of papaya
at southern districts of Andhra Pradesh (AP) and Bengaluru, revealed that the
incidence of papaya leaf curl virus ranged from 17.18-40.80% during
September-October 2025. Maximum disease incidence of 40.80% was observed in
Peddayekkalur village of Ananthapuram. The average disease incidence observed
was 30.5% in AP and 27.1% in Bengaluru. Symptoms observed were severe inward
and downward leaf curling. Twisted petiole, vein clearing and thickening. Leaf
become leathery, brittle ad dark green. Reduced flowering, malformed fruits and
defoliation observed in severe cases.
