Abstract
Plant based insecticides are considered among
the most economic and ecofriendly chemicals for the protection of plants and
stored grains. The aim of this research was to evaluate the insecticidal and
antioxidant activities of two ecotypes of Tunisian Ricinus communis
leaves aqueous extracts. Samples collected from Mograne revealed the best total
phenols (101.81 mgGAE.g-1DW), and flavonoids (3.79 mgER.g-1DW)
contents. This aqueous extract revealed also the best antioxidant capacity (IC50=310.54
µg.ml-1). The insecticidal activity of R. communis aqueous
extracts leaves were tested against Tribolium castaneum. Extracts were
prepared and tested at three concentrations (10, 5 and 2.5%) and compared to
effects of distilled water which is used as a control. The best values of LC50
and LC90 calculated for aqueous extracts were, respectively, 3.369
and 4.979 mg/ml, 24 h after application, for Mograne samples.
